Flock Safety cameras spark mass police surveillance concerns
Original: # ICYMI : Everyone is being watched now by the police, meaning we live in a world where you’re guilty until proven incid
Commentators are warning that automated license plate reader networks, led by the company Flock Safety, now allow police to track the movements of ordinary people on a massive scale. Critics argue the technology has turned everyday driving into constant monitoring, effectively flipping the legal principle so people are treated as suspects first. The debate touches on privacy, civil liberties and the rapid spread of surveillance cameras across communities with little public oversight.
Why now: Growing use of Flock Safety's license plate readers by police has reignited concerns about mass surveillance and privacy.
