Downing Street has moved to reassure the public that RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire remains safe, following the United States' decision to withdraw its bomber aircraft from the base. The US military has used Fairford for rotational bomber deployments, and the pullback has prompted questions about the base's future role. Ministers insist the airfield is secure and continues to matter for NATO and UK-US defence cooperation, seeking to dampen speculation raised by the American withdrawal.
Why now: People are discussing it because the US withdrawal of bombers from a UK base has raised concerns about security and defence commitments.
