Catholic Church Urged to Distribute the Loaves
Original: It’s Time for the Catholic Church to Distribute the Loaves
A commentary published in the Texas Observer argues that the Catholic Church should 'distribute the loaves,' calling on the institution to share its considerable wealth and resources more generously with those in need. The piece invokes the biblical miracle of the loaves and fishes as a moral framing for demands that the church do more to feed, house and support the poor rather than hold onto its assets.
Why now: Ongoing public debate over the Catholic Church's wealth and its obligations to the poor gives the argument resonance.
