The grandson of notorious Scottish criminal Big Mags Haney has been jailed for what a court described as a sadistic machete attack. The case drew attention not only for its violence but for the reported taunt 'chop chop ya bam' used during the incident. It has renewed focus on the Haney family's long criminal history in Lanarkshire.

Why now: The combination of a brutal machete attack and the notorious Haney crime family name makes the sentencing widely discussed.
