Warning Issued Over Growing 'Pentagon-Silicon Complex'
Original: Beware the Rise of the 'Pentagon-Silicon Complex' https://gizmodo.com/beware-the-rise-of-the-pentagon-silicon-complex-20
A Gizmodo commentary warns of deepening ties between the US Defense Department and Silicon Valley, coining the 'Pentagon-Silicon Complex' to describe the fusion of military priorities with the tech industry, particularly around artificial intelligence. The argument echoes Eisenhower's military-industrial complex warning, raising concerns about accountability, profit motives and the speed at which AI is being folded into weapons and defense systems.
Why now: Concerns are growing over the defense establishment's expanding influence over AI and the tech industry.
