Hegseth launches Pentagon religious support office
Original: Hegseth launches Pentagon religious office
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has created a new office at the Pentagon dedicated to religious support within the US military. The move is drawing attention because it formally institutionalises faith-based services at the Department of Defense, with supporters calling it a welcome protection of troops' religious liberty and critics questioning the separation of church and state in the armed forces.
Why now: Pete Hegseth's new Pentagon religious office is controversial and politically charged, prompting debate over religion's role in the military.
