Russian state media silent on Irkutsk plague outbreak

Original: Just did a quick sweep of Russian language state-controlled TV and top tabloid newspapers for latest on the plague epide

Journalist Jason Corcoran reports that a review of Russian state-controlled television and leading tabloid newspapers found no coverage of a plague epidemic threatening Irkutsk. He says Perviy Kanal, Vesti, NTV, MK.ru and KP.ru carried nothing on the outbreak, describing the silence as 'tumbleweed' across major outlets.

Why now: The apparent absence of coverage of a dangerous epidemic by Russia's main media has raised concerns about a potential cover-up.
