A PEN America report finds book bans in US public schools reached a record annual high of 12,000, with Texas leading at 8,100 bans and Florida also heavily represented. Stephen King is again the most banned author. Commenters are sharing the findings widely, describing the figures as unprecedented and raising alarms over censorship and its impact on education.
Why now: PEN America's new report documents an unprecedented level of school book banning, a politically charged issue.
