Wolf Biermann accuses Netanyahu of antisemitism

Original: wolf biermann

German singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of antisemitism, a striking charge from an artist long known for his staunch pro-Israel stance and his own history as a victim of communist persecution in East Germany. The comments are drawing strong reactions in Germany, where Biermann is a prominent public intellectual and debates over Israel policy are especially charged.

Why now: Biermann is a celebrated pro-Israel voice, so his unusually sharp criticism of Netanyahu is generating attention and debate in Germany.
