Yemeni government forces expel Houthis from Bab el-Mandeb Strait
Original: Yemeni government forces drive Houthis from Bab el-Mandeb Strait
Yemeni government forces have driven Houthi fighters from positions along the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the strategic waterway linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The development is being reported by international wire services and is drawing attention because the strait is one of the world's most important shipping corridors, and control of its coastline has been closely tied to attacks on maritime traffic during Yemen's civil war.
Why now: Control of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait affects global shipping and the wider Red Sea security situation, making any shift in control major news.
