Asturias Uprising of 1934 remembered on its anniversary

Original: The # AsturiasUprising began on # ThisDayInHistory in 1934, contributing to the unrest that created the # SpanishRevolut

Posts marking this day in history recall the Asturias Uprising, which began in October 1934 when miners and workers rose up in Asturias, northern Spain. The revolt was suppressed by the army under Francisco Franco, reportedly killing more than 3,000 people. Commenters note that anarchists organised through democratic worker assemblies while socialists relied on union leaders, and that the unrest fed into the Spanish Revolution of 1936.

Why now: The anniversary of the 1934 uprising is prompting historical reflection linked to later revolutionary unrest in Spain.
