California requires permits for human-versus-robot fights
Original: Calif. doesn't want humans fighting robots without its permission

The rule reflects the state's tradition of regulating combat sports, now extended to events pitting people against machines as robot fighting exhibitions gain attention.
Why now: Robot combat events are drawing public interest, prompting questions about how state athletic regulators should oversee them.
