NASA's Perseverance rover has passed its 2,000th Martian day, or sol, on the Red Planet. To mark the milestone it used its PIXL instrument overnight, scanning an interesting feature on a rock in front of it at its current location. The images, shared and processed by space enthusiasts, are drawing attention to the rover's continued scientific work long after its planned mission ended.

Why now: Space fans are celebrating the rover reaching the milestone of 2,000 sols and its ongoing discoveries.
