Trail Blazers fire announcer Braiden Bell over resurfaced posts
Original: NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers fire newly hired announcer Braiden Bell after racist, misogynistic posts resurface
The Portland Trail Blazers have fired Braiden Bell, a newly hired team announcer, after old social media posts described as racist and misogynistic resurfaced online. The dismissal comes shortly after his hiring, and the case adds to the pattern of sports organisations cutting ties with staff over past offensive remarks once they gain public attention.
Why now: The Trail Blazers' swift firing of a new hire over resurfaced offensive posts is prompting discussion about vetting and accountability in sports broadcasting.
