Trump administration rolls back public land protections
Original: Trump cuts public land protections
The Trump administration is moving to cut protections on public lands, opening the way for reduced federal safeguards on areas currently shielded from development or extraction. Commentators are debating the environmental consequences, with critics warning of damage to conservation efforts and supporters arguing the move reduces federal overreach and expands local and commercial access.
Why now: A policy change by a major political figure with significant environmental and land-use implications is drawing widespread reaction.
