The US Army is testing counter-drone technology along the Mexican border as cartels increasingly use drones in their operations, according to Military Times. The deployment reflects growing concern that criminal organisations are adapting cheap commercial drones for surveillance and other purposes, prompting the military to evaluate detection and defeat systems in a real border environment.
Why now: Rising cartel drone activity along the border has drawn military attention and public interest in how the US will respond.
