Vietnamese authorities have arrested twelve people suspected of running a cat trafficking operation, according to the BBC. Cat meat, sometimes called 'little tiger' in Vietnam, is traded despite the country's unclear legal position on the practice. The case highlights ongoing tension between growing pet ownership in Vietnam and a remaining demand for cat meat in some restaurants.
Why now: The unusual nature of a large-scale cat trafficking arrest is drawing attention to Vietnam's cat meat trade.
