Whitney Museum Workers Ratify Contract, Lichtenstein Show Saved
Original: Strike That Threatened Lichtenstein Blockbuster Averted as Whitney Workers Ratify Contract
Workers at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York have ratified a new contract, averting a strike that had threatened the museum's upcoming Roy Lichtenstein retrospective. Unionized staff had been negotiating over pay and conditions, and the agreement removes the threat of a walkout around one of the museum's biggest exhibitions. The deal is being welcomed by labor supporters in the art world.
Why now: Labor organizing at major US museums remains a live issue, and the settlement protects a high-profile exhibition.
