Amazon Ends Data Center Secrecy With $1 Billion Community Pledge
Original: Amazon Ends Data Center Secrecy, Pledges $1 Billion to Communities
Amazon says it will end secrecy around its data center operations and commit $1 billion to communities affected by its infrastructure buildout. The pledge comes as the company faces growing local resistance and scrutiny over the water, power and land demands of its expanding data centers, and signals a shift toward greater transparency about where and how its facilities operate.
Why now: Ongoing public backlash over data centers' strain on local power grids, water and neighborhoods has pushed Amazon to promise transparency and investment.
