Russia's Robotic Tank Stalls During Kremlin Defense Demo
Original: Russia’s Robot Tank Failed in Front of Putin. Then It Got Stuck in the Mud
A Russian unmanned ground vehicle intended as a robotic tank malfunctioned during a demonstration attended by President Vladimir Putin, before becoming immobilized in mud. The widely reported episode has drawn mockery abroad and raised questions about the actual readiness of Russia's military robotics programs, which the Kremlin has promoted as evidence of technological progress in its defense industry.
Why now: The public failure of flagship military technology in front of Putin is embarrassing for Russia and naturally newsworthy.
