WhatsApp is forcing users to update the app before they can access their messages, a cycle that recurs every couple of months. Users report waking up unable to read saved notes and important chats until they install the latest version, an inconvenience made worse when traveling abroad with expensive roaming data. Complaints are circulating that the platform offers no way to view messages without updating first.

Why now: Users are frustrated that recurring forced updates block access to their chats at inconvenient moments, especially while traveling.
