Ukraine reports that a suspected Russian drone attack sank a ship in Romanian territorial waters, an incident described as a significant escalation on NATO's eastern flank. If confirmed, it would mark the first time a Russian strike has sunk a vessel inside a NATO member state's waters, raising fears the war in Ukraine could spill over into neighbouring countries. Romania and NATO have not yet confirmed the details, and observers are watching for an allied response.
Why now: A suspected Russian strike inside NATO territory would be an unprecedented escalation of the war in Ukraine.
