Using Blu-ray M-Disk as a backup of last resort
Original: Using Blu-ray M-Disk as backup of last resort
A technical writer has described building a 'last resort' archive using M-Disc Blu-ray media, inorganic discs rated to survive decades longer than ordinary DVDs or hard drives. The walkthrough covers writing, verifying and storing the discs as a final cold-storage copy. Hacker News readers are debating whether optical media still makes sense for long-term backups in the age of cloud storage.
Why now: Long-term data preservation is a perennial concern, and the detailed hands-on write-up sparked debate on backup strategies.
