Pentagon Betting on Solar Power from Space
The Pentagon is pursuing space-based solar power, a concept that would collect solar energy in orbit and beam it back to Earth. SpaceNews reports on the US Department of Defense's interest in the technology as part of its energy strategy. The idea promises constant power untethered by weather or darkness, but remains technologically and economically unproven, drawing both interest and skepticism.
Why now: Fresh reporting on the Pentagon's push into space-based solar power has drawn attention to a long-debated energy technology.
