Wildlife Services to drop oral rabies vaccines for raccoons in western North Carolina

Original: Wildlife Services to distribute oral rabies vaccines for raccoons in western NC

USDA Wildlife Services plans to distribute oral rabies vaccines targeting raccoons across western North Carolina. The baits are scattered in wooded and rural areas so raccoons ingest them, immunizing animals and reducing the risk of rabies spreading to pets and people. Residents are advised to leave baits alone and keep dogs leashed during distribution.

Why now: Health and wildlife officials run this vaccination campaign annually to curb rabies in raccoon populations
