Space Command weighs future split between Colorado and Alabama
Original: Space Command tries to bridge Colorado and Alabama as joint future of space defense
US Space Command is working to bridge Colorado and Alabama as it shapes the joint future of American space defense. The headquarters question has pitted the two states against each other, with Colorado home to the current operations in Colorado Springs and Alabama, specifically Huntsville, previously designated as the permanent home. Officials are now weighing how to balance both states' roles in space defense missions.
Why now: An ongoing decision over the command's permanent headquarters and the division of roles between the two states keeps the issue in the news.
