Google Accused of Felling 300 Hectares of Forest in Finland
Original: Google Accused of Felling 300 Hectares of Forest for a Finnish Data Centre
Google is facing accusations that it cleared around 300 hectares of forest to make way for a data centre in Finland. The report has drawn criticism from environmental observers who question the trade-off between expanding digital infrastructure and preserving woodland in the Nordic country. Google has built several data centres in Finland in recent years to serve European cloud demand.
Why now: Criticism of big tech's environmental footprint from data centre expansion is a highly charged topic right now.
