Palestinian medics put World Medical Association on trial in Rotterdam
Original: Palestinian medics, jailed & tortured by Israel without charge, put the World Medical Association on trial in Rotterdam.
Palestinian medics who were jailed and allegedly tortured by Israel without charge brought a symbolic case against the World Medical Association at a gathering in Rotterdam. Delegates were pressed to state whether medical neutrality still protects health workers, or whether Israel can detain medics with impunity amid the Gaza conflict. Supporters framed it as a test of the global medical community's willingness to defend colleagues under occupation.
Why now: Ongoing outrage over the treatment of Gaza's health workers and pressure on international medical bodies to take a stance.
