Italian police have carried out a large-scale operation against neo-Nazi and racist groups, with the Trento branch of the DIGOS special investigations unit taking part. Several people were stopped or detained on suspicion of glorifying Hitler and promoting violence against Jews, Black people and the LGBTQ+ community. The case has drawn attention to the persistence of far-right extremism in Italy.
Why now: The large coordinated police action against neo-Nazi groups is fresh news with potential legal and political fallout.
