Hydroelectric dams threaten jaguars and tigers, conservationists warn
Original: Often lauded as a saviour for the # environment and # climate , hydroelectric dams threaten # bigcats : # jaguars and #
Conservation groups are highlighting that hydroelectric dams, widely praised as clean energy for the climate, pose a threat to endangered big cats such as jaguars and tigers. Dam projects flood and fragment forest habitats, cutting off the corridors these animals need to survive. Campaigners are calling for better forest protection so that endangered big cats are not sacrificed in the name of green energy.
Why now: Renewable energy projects like hydropower are being reassessed for their hidden environmental costs to wildlife.
