Border agents cut down tree occupied by activists for months
Original: They sat atop a ‘grandmother’ tree for months. Border agents knocked it down.
A large old-growth tree — described by activists as a 'grandmother' tree — was felled by border agents after environmental protesters occupied its canopy for months. The removal ended a lengthy tree-sitting action, drawing criticism from conservationists who say the destruction of an ancient tree is a senseless escalation, and renewed attention to clashes between border enforcement and environmental defenders.
Why now: Images and reports of authorities felling a beloved ancient tree after a months-long occupation are sparking outrage among environmentalists.
