Mexico has reintroduced bison to its northern deserts after roughly two centuries of absence, and observers report rapid ecological change. Within months, soil health improved, seeds spread more widely, dry vegetation declined, and other wildlife began returning. Conservationists cite the case as an example of rewilding, showing how a single keystone species can help restore an entire ecosystem.

Why now: The rapid, visible ecological recovery following the bison reintroduction is being shared as an encouraging rewilding success story.
