Original: Mark Swed’s Departure Is a Huge Loss for L.A. Music
Longtime Los Angeles Times classical music critic Mark Swed is leaving the paper, and the reaction is grief within the music world. San Francisco Classical Voice calls his departure a huge loss for L.A. music, framing Swed as one of the most influential voices in American classical criticism and a defining chronicler of the city's orchestral and new-music scene.
Why now: Swed's departure removes a leading critical voice covering Los Angeles classical music, prompting tributes and concern about coverage.
