The Trump administration has turned down elements of a set of proposals China put forward during President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States last month. Beijing had sought a broader agenda, including meetings between Chinese officials and US business leaders and a joint agreement on artificial intelligence. The partial rejection signals continued friction in US-China relations and limits on how far Washington is willing to expand cooperation with Beijing.
Why now: US-China diplomacy is under close watch and the rejection of Xi's proposals signals ongoing tension between the two powers.
