COP31 Seeks Modest Steps as Climate Disasters Multiply
Original: COP31 eyes modest steps as climate disasters multiply
The COP31 climate summit is reportedly aiming for limited, incremental agreements even as extreme weather events multiply around the world. With climate disasters intensifying, negotiators are expected to focus on achievable steps rather than sweeping commitments, a gap between ambition and outcomes that is drawing scrutiny of whether international climate diplomacy can keep pace with worsening impacts.
Why now: A new UN climate summit is under way amid growing concern that negotiations are delivering too little as extreme weather worsens.
