Trump says he will 'certainly look at' US military base in Lithuania

Original: Trump says he will ‘certainly look at’ establishing US military base in Lithuania

President Trump said he would 'certainly look at' establishing a permanent US military base in Lithuania, according to The Hill. The statement comes amid heightened NATO attention to the alliance's eastern flank, where Baltic states have long sought a stronger, more permanent American troop presence as a deterrent against Russia. A US base in Lithuania would mark a significant shift in NATO's posture in the Baltics.

Why now: Tensions with Russia and debate over NATO's eastern flank defenses make any US base pledge in the Baltics highly newsworthy.
