Televangelist Jim Bakker dies at 86
Original: jim bakker
Jim Bakker, the American televangelist who co-founded the Praise the Lord Club and built a Christian broadcasting empire before it collapsed in scandal, has died at 86, according to his family. Bakker resigned from his ministry in 1987 amid a sexual misconduct scandal and later served prison time for defrauding followers of millions of dollars. Obituaries across major outlets recall him as one of the most prominent and controversial figures in American religious television.
Why now: The death of a once-dominant and scandal-marked televangelist is prompting widespread obituary coverage and reflection on his legacy.
