Golden Dome becomes a test of binding space rules
Original: Golden Dome: A cheap test of who wants binding rules in space
The Golden Dome missile defence initiative is being framed as a low-cost way to gauge which states genuinely want legally binding rules for activities in space. Analysts argue that Washington's pursuit of space-based defence capabilities will reveal whether major powers are willing to accept restraints, or whether strategic competition will continue to outrun efforts at arms control beyond Earth's atmosphere.
Why now: Growing concern that space-based missile defence plans are undermining prospects for binding international rules in space.
