North Carolina wildlife officials urge residents to secure food as bears bulk up for fall
Original: NC Wildlife urges residents to secure food sources as bears enter fall feeding phase
North Carolina Wildlife officials are asking residents to secure trash, pet food, grills and other food sources as black bears enter their fall feeding phase, when they eat heavily to prepare for winter. Officials warn that easy access to human food draws bears into neighborhoods and can create dangerous conflicts.
Why now: Bears are intensively foraging in autumn, raising the risk of human-bear encounters in residential areas.
