USDA to drop 700,000 rabies vaccine baits across Alabama
Original: USDA to drop more than 700,000 rabies vaccine baits across Alabama
The USDA is set to distribute more than 700,000 oral rabies vaccine baits across Alabama as part of an ongoing wildlife rabies control effort. The baits, dropped from aircraft, are designed to immunize raccoons and other wild animals that can carry the virus. Local outlets are reporting on the operation, which aims to protect both wildlife and public health by slowing the spread of rabies.
Why now: A large-scale wildlife vaccination operation is underway, prompting regional interest in how the baits work and whether they pose any risk to pets or people.
