Fort Hood shooter to face firing squad execution, a first since WWII
Original: Fort Hood shooter to be executed by firing squad, in first since World War Two https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq8ez
The man convicted of the Fort Hood shooting is to be executed by firing squad, the first such execution in the United States since World War Two. The report has drawn attention to the rarity of firing squad executions in the modern American justice system and to the long aftermath of the Fort Hood attack, one of the deadliest on a US military installation.
Why now: A firing squad execution would be the first in the US in roughly 80 years, making the case unusually newsworthy.
