Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan to face firing squad
Original: Fort Hood mass shooter Nidal Malik Hasan to die by US Army firing squad
The US Army is moving toward executing Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, by firing squad. It would be the US military's first execution in decades. The case renews debate over the death penalty and the slow pace of military justice.
Why now: News that the Army will use a firing squad, an unusually rare method, has drawn fresh attention to a long-stalled death penalty case.
