The Sudanese Armed Forces say they captured the town of Abu Surug in West Darfur on October 5, taking it from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The claim is being tracked by open-source analysts following Sudan's civil war, which has seen heavy fighting across Darfur as the army presses offensives against the RSF.
Why now: Sudan's civil war between the army and the RSF remains a closely followed conflict, and new territorial shifts in Darfur draw immediate attention.
