NFL suspends two officials for conduct toward players
Original: NFL suspends two officials for 'unprofessional conduct' toward players during Sunday's games
The NFL has suspended two game officials for what the league called unprofessional conduct toward players during Sunday's games. The suspensions were announced by the league, which did not initially detail the specific interactions involved. The move is drawing attention because officiating conduct toward players is rarely punished so publicly, raising questions about what happened on the field and how the league handles accountability for its referees.
Why now: The NFL rarely suspends its own officials, so the unusual disciplinary action during a game week is drawing wide attention.
