A report reveals that 138 women members of the European Parliament have been victims of pornographic deepfakes, fabricated using artificial intelligence. The findings have sparked concern about the abuse of female politicians online and renewed debate over EU rules on AI-generated content and the protection of women from digital gender-based violence.
Why now: The scale of the abuse against elected representatives is prompting renewed calls for regulation of AI deepfakes and protection of women in politics.
