Rogue pilots seen as an 'impossible' aviation security threat
Original: Rogue pilots may be the most dangerous threat to passengers. They’re ‘just about impossible’ to stop
A new report warns that rogue pilots may pose the most dangerous threat to airline passengers, with security experts describing such insider scenarios as 'just about impossible' to stop. The concern is that a pilot with legitimate access to the cockpit and aircraft controls could down a plane before anyone could intervene, and current safeguards are unlikely to deter a determined insider.
Why now: Fresh reporting on aviation security risks from insiders has prompted renewed debate about cockpit safeguards.
