Red Snapper Season Opens Friday with Citizen Science Program
Original: Red snapper season opens Friday; anglers can donate carcasses for science and prizes
Red snapper fishing season opens Friday, and anglers are being asked to donate fish carcasses to support scientific research, with prizes offered as an incentive. The donations give researchers data on the fish population while allowing fishermen to take part in conservation efforts during the short recreational season.
Why now: The recreational red snapper season is short and highly anticipated, and the new donation program gives anglers a novel way to contribute to fisheries science.
