Tories pledge British Iron Dome-style missile shield
Original: Tories pledge British Iron Dome
The UK Conservative Party has announced a pledge to build a British version of Israel's Iron Dome, a national missile defence system designed to intercept incoming rockets and drones. The proposal, presented as part of the party's defence and security offer, is drawing attention and debate about its cost, feasibility and how it would fit with existing UK and NATO air defence capabilities.
Why now: A major opposition party proposing a costly new national missile defence system is politically striking and feeds ongoing defence policy debate.
