Hideaki Anno to direct new Space Battleship Yamato film

Original: 庵野秀明 ヤマト

A new theatrical anime film, 'Space Battleship Yamato √2199', has been greenlit, with Hideaki Anno serving as director, planner and executive producer and Yutaka Izubuchi as co-director. It marks the first co-production between Studio Khara and Production I.G. Comments from Anno and Izubuchi accompanied the announcement, and Japanese media widely covered the news.

Why now: The surprise pairing of Anno with the iconic Yamato franchise and a first-time Khara/Production I.G collaboration is major anime news.
