Former Israeli hostage Luis Har criticises government over Gaza captivity
Original: Luis Har, former Israeli hostage in Gaza: ‘If it had been only up to our government, we would still be there’
Luis Har, a former Israeli hostage held in Gaza, said in an interview with El País that if it had been up to the Israeli government alone, the hostages would never have been freed. His remarks pointedly criticise the authorities' handling of the hostage crisis, suggesting the deal for releases came despite, not because of, government efforts.
Why now: His blunt criticism of the Israeli government's role in the hostage negotiations has struck a nerve amid ongoing debate over the captives still held in Gaza.
